this is academic, but were my data being collected i'd prefer to opt-in to
the collection practices serving secondary purposes, such as persistent store
 or recipients other than my collegial collaborators. if the problem to be
solved (historical archive, legalistic oversight) isn't the problem posed
(volunteer selection), absent controlling authority (none) this appears to
be collective self-indulgence.

there are more important things to discuss.
