I assure you, WG chairs do not act as if they were employees of the ADs. They're quite aware that the AD has no control over their jobs or salaries, and they generally feel free to run their groups as they see fit as long as they don't flagrantly violate process rules. About all the AD can do is fire the chair or disband the group - both of which tend to generate political backlash which makes the AD's job harder in the long run. Keith
