todd - you just don't "get" the IETF.

who cares what the ISO thinks? not us. if they want to do business with us, great, but we aren't going to substantively change on their account.

thus far, all of your proposals are based on the problems that *you* perceive in the IETF. here's a bulletin: they aren't problems with the IETF, you think they're problems because the IETF isn't conforming to your model.

so, rather than try to change us, why don't you start a new standards organization that conforms to your model, and then come back in five years and we can compare notes.

at this point vernon normally points out that the guys with a problem are the guys who don't have "street cred" (e.g., they haven't published any rfcs, they haven't chaired any working groups, they haven't run any areas, etc). i guess vernon is on vacation...
