I am a member of this years nomcom and have served on two other nomcoms in 
prior  years.  I was also active in the IETF when the events took place 
that caused the current nomcom process to be created.

While I think making the list of nominees public solves some problems, I 
think the new problems it creates are worse.  Specifically, it will likely 
turn the selection into a popularity contest.  This would be very bad.

I think a possible middle ground is to make it clear to potential nominees 
that when they fill in a questionnaire and agree to be considered for a 
position, the nomcom will be asking relevant people about their views on 
them.  This will be not done to the world, but to people in a position to 
provide feed back to the nomcom.
