Actually, my understanding of the current procedures (and from conversation 
a lot of other peoples understanding) is that the 4 ex-officio members are 
not there to "provide adult supervision".  The Chair is supposed to provide 
such supervision.  There is a lot of discussion about what role the other 
ex-officio members are supposed to play, but the wording does not lead me 
to understand that they are intended to provide supervision.
If we want the ex-officio members to provide such supervision, we had best 
say so.
