That's fine, I have no problem with that - but there's a difference between
gauging support for the general idea, and reaching consensus on the principle.

Just having this debate should be showing people what support exists for,
and against, the general notions.  No problem with doing that (ie: I am
not suggesting that debate should be halted until there's a concrete
proposal - since I'm doing a fair amount of the debating, that would be
a bit hypocritical).

What we shouldn't be doing is attempt to actually decide any kind of
issue of principle.

If after viewing what is said here, someone feels that they have an idea
about how it can work, and judges that there's been enough support expressed,
then it can be written up (probably initially just as an e-mail to the
list - we're only talking about what will be a paragraph or so of the
final doc after all).

Then we can actually see if support for the particular proposal exists.
