Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to make it to Yokohama, but I would like to register my support for such a proposal. I'm aware that some people are concerned about the prospect of having their names made public. On the other hand, if the list is as broad as possible (i.e., all people who have been suggested to nomcom), I believe this mitigates this concern, since no one will know whether someone was self-nominated, nominated by a friend, nominated by a loon, or nominated by the nomcom. Also, if nomcom solicits input from working group chairs and other significant area participants, the number of people that see a "blinded list" (which consists of the people who nomcom is actively considering, plus some other names) is so made known to so many people that it might as well be made public anyway --- and that list isn't that different from the list of all people who have ever been suggested to that particular nomcom for that particular position. - Ted
