Subject: The handling of Late Year Mid Term Vacancies
The design team found itself in a quandary regarding the issue of how one deals with late in the year mid-term vacancies. There were 2 facets of this that were seen as important to varying degrees: - A vacancy is often critical and needs to be filled in a timely manner - A new nomcom takes several months to get up to speed and thus cannot be made to act in a timely manner. There were several proposal but the main choices basically boiled down to these two: 1. The proposal that had design team rough consensus and is documented in the the current draft in 3.5 (soon to appear). In this solution the term of the nomcom is 15 months. During the 3 months when the terms of an outgoing and an incoming nomcom overlap, the outgoing nomcom would only be used to fill a mid term vacancy. The nomcoms would be isolated from each other; i.e. they would not share information. The outgoing Nomcom must fill mid-term vacancies within 6 weeks of being given the task. 2. The way not chosen, leaving the term 12 months with no overlap. All late in the year mid-term vacancies that occurred either in the last 6 weeks of the outgoing nomcom's term or in the first 6 weeks of the incoming nomcom's term would be relegated to the incoming nomcom to handle in as timely a manner as possible. a. -- Avri Doria http://www.sm.luth.se/~avri/
