Subject: [sitefinder-tech-discuss] A technical question
On 9/29 I sent the following message to Network Solution's support. They told me to send it to Verisign support. On 9/29 I sent the message to Verisign support. I received a confirmation message saying I'd be answered in 24 hours. That was the last I heard. (As I said in my previous post--you live with the reputation you make.)
http://www.verisign.com/nds/naming/sitefinder/info.html states:"Domain registrars should use VeriSign's Shared Registration System service to determine if a domain name is available for registration. Others should use Whois."The output of Verisign's WHOIS states:"TERMS OF USE: You are not authorized to access or query our Whois database through the use of electronic processes that are high-volume and automated except as reasonably necessary to register domain names or modify existing registrations;"Those two statements are contradictory. On the one hand you are telling me that my code which use to use DNS now should use your WHOIS system. In the other you are telling me that my code isn't allowed to use the WHOIS system (it's automated, high-volume, and doesn't have to do with domain registration).Which statement is accurate, and if the answer is the second--then please correct the first and tell me what I *am* supposed to use.
I have some other questions, but let's start there. -- Kee Hinckley http://www.messagefire.com/ Next Generation Spam Defense http://commons.somewhere.com/buzz/ Writings on Technology and Society I'm not sure which upsets me more: that people are so unwilling to accept responsibility for their own actions, or that they are so eager to regulate everyone else's.
