Sorry about that.  The statements do appear to contradict each other.

One method for conducting this check would be to compare the result of a query for the wildcard (e.g. *.com) to the result of your domain lookup. With caching, this should be efficient.

I have also used an NS query in some of my scripts, though I advise more care in using this method as a full resolver may be too helpful with some of the answers.
