Assuming for the moment this is a correct quote, I take issue with the"competitive advantage" claim. There are not multiple operators of .com and .net -
Verisign is a de facto public utility (in the logical sense, I don't claim to be a utilities regulatory expert) So this is not a situation where there are competitors, and therefore competitive advantage doesn't apply. Unless you think all the residents of Sau Tome and Principe are going to rise up against the DNS operator for .ST ;-) There HAVE been cases in the past where a vendor diverted from a standard, causing varying degrees of disturbance.
