Actually, if they will commit to the NAPTR record being the _ONLY_ wildcard record returned and no A record, then, it would be fairly easy because a host that REALLY
exists would, presumably, have an A record.

Of course it still doesn't answer the question of how I validate whether
a particular host exists when I'm entering data in some arbitrary
program.  It just makes the problem less common. --
