What he is saying IMHO is that when people wrote functions they expected certain things to be a specific way - .com and .net have ALWAYS returned NXDOMAIN on nonexistant domains. Because .com and .net are the most popular TLDs, this is kinda logical for them to do. By changing the .com and .net TLDs you are expecting every developer in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD to bend to your mystical whims and change their programs. The TLDs which do use the wildcard are nearly as popular as .com and .net, and most of them were brought online with the wildcards in place - not changed later on after everyone in the world had a domain in the TLD and people expected certain things from it. > You'll get no argument here. There do no appear to be guidelines for > this. However, VeriSign would be willing to participate in their creation. Verisign only likes talking when it benefits them. The minute they realize that people don't support them - they start their FUD campaign and start ignoring the people who are trying to talk to them. I asked last week to speak to some technical people about my concerns and get an official statement from someone at verisign. I got one call back from bite but still have yet to hear back from people who know about the details. You know what that tells me? It tells me that Verisign has no interest of actually working with the community. They are only interested in themselves regardless if it fucks everyone else over in the process. This is why I despise Verisign. Forget being fair. This is out of control. -------------------------- Brian Bruns The Summit Open Source Development Group Open Solutions For A Closed World / Anti-Spam Resources http://www.sosdg.org ICQ: 8077511 ---------------------------------------------------------------- To subscribe or unsubscribe from this elist use the subscription manager: <http://lists.elistx.com/unsubscribe>
